Operation: Spread Kindness

share kindness

The Kindness Helpers have been leaving us fun little notes every day since the first day in December. Each day they give us a new way to spread kindness and love to those around us. We have shared love to our family members, our friends, and this week the letters focused on us spreading love to the people at our school.

On Friday our packet was FULL of items.  Inside our envelope we found TONS of Hershey Kisses, a letter from the Kindness Helpers, white pieces of construction paper and baggies full of base ten blocks. The Kindness Helpers told us that we were going to spread kindness to the people who work at our school. They told each of my students to take a white piece of construction paper and write our Bible verse on it. My students happily got to work, writing in their best handwriting, the verse Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another” on their cards. They traced their letters with colorful sharpies and then added a few stickers to them.

Next, they took one baggie full of base ten blocks and counted them carefully to see how many Hershey Kisses to put in their bag. {Sneaky math connection. ;) }

They then added the correct number of Hershey Kisses.

When they were finished filling their bags, I tied them together with a piece of ribbon and we passed them out to all of the staff members at my school.

My students have been LOVING spreading kindness. It has transformed the month of December from one that is very self-centric to one that has been very amazing to walk through. My students are encouraging one another, they are helping without being prompted to, and are using such kind words. They are truly taking these lessons to heart and it has been a JOY to watch.

I hope that you are having a great December, too!
